it happens two to three times a year. don’t know why it’s called that. if you get a dog spayed, it won’t have heat cycles.

dogs dont get periods but i believe they go into heat about 1 time a year (correct me if im wrong guys). Im not sure why its called that but no, they dont have periods. If they have a few drops of blood ocassinally then its fine, nothing to worry about. But please please please spay your animal, over 2,000,000 animals die in shelters because of people breeding their dogs ireponsibally. Get your animal spayed and they wont go into heat. good luck

I am by no means any type of expert on the cycle of dogs but they have cycles too. I believe it called estrus or something like that. Dogs and cats alike can go into heat more than once a year and it can start happening around 6 to 9 months of age. Don’t know about you, but I would **** to see a puppy having puppies. They are just like kids, it’s not good for them either to have babies to soon.
As for when do their heat cycles stop… not sure but I suppose when they get too old or…. when you get her “fixed”

=)

Yes, Dogs have the equivalent of two periods a year, known as ‘coming into season’ or being ‘on heat’. These are generally six months apart, though it can vary by breed, and individual. They do bleed during this time, again, hugely variable amounts, and it is whilst they are in season that they are fertile and hence hugely attractive to male dogs. The season lasts approximately three weeks, and most bitches will ovulate around day eleven. Bitches get their first season anytime from six months old onwards, and it is advisable to get a female dog spayed (neutered) by six months if not planning to breed from her. Spaying this early also cuts the risk of mammary gland and other feminine cancers. Hope this helps!
