LOVExiSxTHExANSWER asked:

My dog is a purebred maltese. He is 3 years old. He sleeps all the time, trhat’s basically all he does, even when I’m home. He’s not active. How many hours a day are dogs suppose to sleep? Is he unhealthy?

The only person who can determine whether or not your dog is healthy is your VET. If the dog is sleeping ALL of the time, then no, that is not normal.

A healthy, stress free dog can sleep up to 20 hours a day—-which is why you really have to make sure the mature ones get enough exercise.

dog can sleep anywhere from 30 min to 6 hours….and fell fully rested….*note*…if ur dog sleeps all the time…try to get it to wake up and play…horse around…play fetch…go out for a run…stuff that u and the dog will do togather…some dogs will sleep alot if they feel that the person is not giving them enough attention….

Do you exercise him? Does he have any toys? I have a lab mix that is almost 2 years old. We go to the dog park every morning and for a walk every night. She sleeps quite alot but then she also has alot of exercise.

They sleep all the time, except when they are studying for the SAT.

It would probably be best to discuss this with your vet. At three years old he is still young and should be up and about, especially when you are home. When you are home, do you guys go for walks, exercise, etc? A good site to check out is
