What are your thoughts on dressing dogs up for Halloween?
Written by Luvs Dogs on February 15th, 2009
a gal and her dog asked:
Are you dressing your dog up, or is your dog going to be a dog?
What do you think about others dressing their dogs up?
This isn’t about my dog - dogs in general. I’m not taking costume ideas, thanks…

I think it’s really cute as long as it’s not too much. Like a shirt or cape and maybe a hat.

I’d dress mine up if I had one but nothing too bulky.

Idk I don’t but I guess whatever the people want to do. Besides the dog can’t complain too much the owner is giving the dog free food and shelter.

I think it is some form of animal cruelty.

i think it’s a silly idea. the dog’s not going trick or treating, right?
dogs probably arent even comfortable in clothes. why make them wear it? for your own pleasure?

I like it. There is no rule specifying that humans are the only ones allowed to dress up. U shuld put him in a Micheal Vick jersey lmao.

I don’t think that dogs really like wearing clothes
For Halloween the highest I go is a really cute caller for my cut dogs
If they were meant to wear clothes they would, and they wouldn’t have fur
Fur is like their clothes

my boys for sure will get to wear some sort of costume…so long as it doesnt hurt them, or that you can actually keep it on.

My 3 year old daughter wants to dress her 7 pound dog as a lobster…I am actually thinking about it - The comedy factor alone may be too good not to do it.

As long as its not choking the dog or something. And the dog doesnt try to take it off, and its loose.

I think it’s fine to dress your dogs up for Hallowe’en as long as you dress them up as something really cool, and you do NOT try to steal their candy.. That’s just crap.. Making the dog cute so you get a bigger candy haul…

My dog will be a dog. I don’t really care for people that dress up their dogs, I’m more into the dog look, and since I have a lab and am into bird hunting so dressing up dogs seems to be a little strange to me, but some people like it and think it’s cute, I think it can get a little gross, but that’s just my opinion!

If I gave a frank answer to your question, I would undoubtedly get many thumbs down from people who like to anthropomorphize dogs, so I won’t.

I dressed up my cats. Not for long mind you but I love it. Some dogs do to. Go for it!

I dress my dogs up. They wear sweaters in the winter and love to dress up, I don’t care if people say that they don’t. I don’t get costumes that will make them uncomfortable, nothing with hats, if it comes with a hat they don’t wear it.

I think dressing up your dog is cute. I wouldn’t go all out on an expensive costume or anything but last year we bought my huskie a witch costume at Target

I think it’s funny. I’m not into the whole sweaters and outfits everyday, because they are dogs that come with their own coats. But Halloween I think is an exception. If I had a dog I would probably dress it up. If I could talk my husband into it.

I think it’s cute! Some people’s pets are their children so why not dress them up? My son’s girlfriend has a mini dachsund and she is dressing him up like a hot dog - too cute!! Ü

I think it isn’t a good idea. It depends on your own dog. Some dogs can’t stand clothes on them others love it.
My cockapoo hates it. Whenever i put something like a tutu on him, he starts going crazy, trying to rip it off him.LOL.

I think dressing your pets up for any occasion regardless if its a holiday thing or just everyday things is the stupidest thing you can do.
It looks real stupid.

That’s a great idea! It would be funny ; if you’re creative enough; to make a hot dog costume for your dog…bun, mustard, ketchup, relish etc…wouldn’t that be funny? Well? Wouldn’t it? Yes it is funny, here’s your 10 points sir.
I love peanut butter.

I don’t have a dog. I have a cat and she won’t sit still for that sort of thing. But I think dressing up dogs is great fun. I keep on file a bunch of pix of dogs dressed up for Halloween. There are even a couple of ferrets and a turtle.
I say, if the dog is game, go for it.

I dress my dogs up.
My dogs don’t mind and they look adorable.
I will be going to a costume contest.
I like to get out in the public with my dogs and educate the public on buying from reputable breeders or adoting from shelters or rescues.
It is a good way to talk to people and to give them some guidance.

I think it’s the cutest thing! Last year, I bought my dog a Tinkerbell costume but she just wouldn’t have it. I wasted my money so I will be selling it this year on ebay. Some dogs just won’t cooperate so dress it before you decide to do it.

I’ve never really been big on the whole dog clothing for aesthetic purposes, but I think a cowboy hat or something just to get a picture is fun.
I’m not even going to attempt it with my dogs. What ever costume I put on them would be ripped to shreds in a matter of seconds.
